AIN'T NO SUNSHINE AT MY WEDDING!

Oct
12

Hello everyone. How have you lovely namywedding.com readers been faring? Good? WOW! That's nice to know!

I know you are wondering why all the greeting. Well, it is simply because, as much as I love all you namywedding.com readers, I am about to burn some cables with this post, hence the sugar talk!

Ok to the post!

To start this post I would like to put up some definitions of sunglasses:

Sunglasses

Tinted protective eyewear used to decrease the eye’s exposure to potentially harmful sunlight. Sunglasses are rated according to the amount of UV light they block.

Sunglasses

Spectacles that have tinted lenses. They are used to protect the eyes from bright sunlight, for special cases (e.g. fear of light) or for cosmetic reasons.

From The free dictionary

Sunglasses

Eyeglasses with colored or tinted lenses that protect the eyes from the glare of sunlight.

From Dictionary.com

Moving on…

SO it has become a trend, albeit an annoying one, for people especially celebs to wear sunglasses indoors or in places like in dark clubs, at night time concerts, on the red carpet at late night events and basically every where that there is no sunlight. For the celebs, I can excuse them because, well, they are celebs and can almost get away with almost anything that they do (except of course when it has to do with weddings)!, but for all you other "non-celeb" peoples (spelt that way on purpose), sunglasses indoors, especially at weddings is a huge and i repeat HUGE NO NO.

You make yourselves and your pics look like you have a bad case of apollo (conjunctivitis) and frankly, you just shouldn't.

I have never and do not think I want to understand the idea of wearing sunglasses or shades (as some people call them) indoors. I think it is just plain wrong. They are called sunglasses for reason — to protect your eyes from the sunlight or the glare of a light that would be harmful to the eyes!

Now as much as I have never cared for the trend, I care for it even less when it appears in weddings! Have you ever seen that wedding album where the groom looks like Stevie Wonder in all the pics? I mean in most of or all the wedding pictures, he is wearing shades!

I do not know where to start from with my displeasure at such. I could excuse it if it was a playful shot where only the bride and groom had shades while the wedding party is "shadeless" or vice versa. MY point is, it is only ok when it is in one or two shots in the wedding album as a "swagger" shot or something like that!

You might ask me: "What's wrong with wearing shades?"

I would answer you that nothing is wrong with wearing tinted glasses if you have an eye condition that needs them! My dad had one for when the glare of the fluorescent bulbs were too much for his aging eyes, but i can assure you that they were no where near as dark as those my offenders wear at night.

You might also ask me: Why is it wrong to wear them at weddings?

I would answer as follows:

1. Except for an outside wedding or a destination wedding in a sunny island, the ambience for wedding as usually always toned down and borders on dark. Why would you want to wear shades in an environment like that?

2. It is often said, the eyes are the windows to the soul. At a wedding, a photographer wants to see the joy and happiness seep from your soul into their lens! So your wearing those huge, dark as night shades in that room that has been lit to fit that romantic atmosphere is not quite gonna help achieve that.

3. Unless you have apollo or eye bags from crying or some other condition that your are sure you do not want in wedding pics, then you really shouldn't be wearing shades at a wedding, especially if you are the bride or groom!!

With these few points of mine, i hope i have been able to confuse… i mean convince and not confuse you that you should not have the pictures of one of the most special days in your life "shaded" with sunglasses!

Last point of note, i recently saw an album on namywedding.com (i will not place a link) of a wedding in which most of the great "framable" pics had the groom in shades and it got me thinking as to how hard it would be to select a nice pic of your wedding to hang up on the wall in your house!

I mean i want people to look at the wedding pic hanging on my wall and say, "aawww, look at the love shining in his eyes!" or "you can see in their eyes how much they adore each other!" not "why was he wearing such dark shades throughout most of the reception?"

So guys, do you agree with me or what?
